The room label is only the beginning

Our first shortlist brings together four properties whose operators describe private accommodation. A double, a twin, a family room and a privatized dorm are different choices. At The People Marais and JO&JOE Nation, some private sleeping rooms use shared bathrooms. Follow the exact category before treating an en suite as included.

A field guide for the decision in front of you

Start with the private-room selection if you already know you want your own space. Use the room-versus-dorm worksheet if two beds are still an option. Then compare the practical constraints: an early arrival, food plans, a short stay or the need to leave bags. There is no universal winner across those requirements.

Choose the detail that matters most

For a short visit, compare arrival and departure arrangements alongside the bedroom. For a longer stay, give food facilities and the daily journey more weight. If a private bathroom is essential, make it a requirement before looking at prices.

Start with the room that fits

For two travelers who want their own bathroom, begin with the private-room category table. If separate beds, cooking facilities or a late arrival will decide the choice, use the property comparisons to narrow the shortlist before checking rates.

For the difference between a private sleeping room and private facilities, read the private-room bathroom guide. Once you have an acceptable offer, make an arrival plan. Photograph details are in image credits.
